Brazil
became the winners of the 2005 Confederations Cup on 29th June, when they
beat arch rivals Argentina in the final in Frankfurt. The young side put
out by hosts Germany won back the hearts of the home fans, taking third
place with a battling 4-3 win in the third place play-off match against Mexico,
despite playing for over
an hour with only 10 men.
Other teams in the
tournament, seen as a dress rehearsal for the World Cup itself, were
Greece, Japan, Argentina, Australia,
Mexico and Tunisia.
The tournament began as two
groups of 4:
