Kaiserslautern : City

Kaiserslautern by rail

Email this article
 Printer friendly page
Kaiserslautern main railway station is less than a mile from the Fritz Walter Stadium.  In fact, you can see the roof of the stands and the floodlights from the station platforms (although by 2006 the floodlight pylons may have gone as new floodlights along the top of the stands are being installed).

Local transport
Come into town by train and you won't need to use any!

Location
Kaiserslautern is not a large city.  The population is only around 100,000.  So, as well as being near to the football ground the station is also near to pretty much everything else.  You can walk into the central pedestrian zone within 10 minutes, and another 10 minutes will bring you to any of the city centre sights, like the town hall, Fruchthalle or picturesque Spinnrädl.

Mainline Services
With Kaiserslautern being near to the French border in the south-west corner of Germany, rail links to most other areas of the country require a number of changes, although to Frankfurt and Stuttgart, for instance, there are a number of direct trains.  Connections to or from the 11 other World Cup venues are as shown on the right:
