The Fritz Walter Stadion
Sitting atop the Betzenberg, Kaiserslautern's stadium is named after the club's most famous player and former German national captain Fritz Walter.

It's a traditional football stadium with the stands close to the pitch and a reputation for generating a cauldron-like atmosphere.

Redevelopment
The stadium is going through a period of redevelopment in the run-up to the World Cup.  Both ends of the ground (the east and west 'curves') are being upgraded.  When all of the work has been finished, the stadium will have a 41,513 all-seater capacity.

The floodlights are also being upgraded and by 2006 will run along the front edges of the north and south stands ... so the distinctive pylons that could previously seen from down in the town may not exist any more as an orientation aid by the time the World Cup comes around.

For Bundesliga games, the club operates a left luggage facility in a bus (the Gepäckbus) outside the ground - whether that, or something similar will operate for the World Cup remains to be seen (if you do have luggage with you, there are also coin-operated lockers at the railway station).

Possible bars for a drink before the game include: the Hannen Fass at 1-3 St. Martins Platz, the Brauhaus am Markt sports bar at 2 Stiftplatz, the Underground music club at 4 Logenstrasse and the bar in the Dorint Hotel at 1 St. Quentin Ring.
