City centre to stadium

Directions by road
The AOL Arena, sorry FIFA World Cup Stadium, Hamburg, is fairly close to the A7 motorway.  Leave the A7 by the Volkspark exit (the stadium used to be called the Volkspark Stadium). Several different car parks are used for Bundesliga games and no doubt arrangements will be similar for the World Cup.  Directions to these are as follows:

Car parks

  • White Usually for badge holders only.  After leaving motorway, turn right into Schnackenburgallee.  After approx. 500m, turn left into August Kirch Strasse and follow signs
  • Brown From the M-way or from the city centre, approach as above along Schnackenburgallee.
  • Red Approaching from Kieler Strasse, via the Bindsbarg tunnel, Binsbarg and Farnhornstieg to the Hellgrundweg
  • Green Approach via Luruper Strasse and Stadionstrasse
Street parking near the ground is banned and cars parked illegally will be towed away.  More information and a map of the car park locations is available here on the HSV website.

By public transport
With all World Cup tickets being valid for matchday travel on local public transport, this is the recommended way of getting to the stadium.  From the main railway station, take the S22 metro to Stellingen, from where fleets of buses shuttle fans the last few hundred yards to the stadium.
Hamburg S-Bahn metro service

The shuttle buses drop you off right outside the Arena and the system works very well for getting to the game.  However, expect a long wait to get on a bus back to Stellingen after the game - even with Teutonic organisation it takes a long time to put tens of thousands of people onto a fleet of buses!  Journey time, without waiting, is under 25 minutes.
