Gottlieb Daimler Memorial In 1882, Gottlieb Daimler bought a villa in the Bad Cannstatt area of Stuttgart and converted the greenhouse in the garden into his workshop. The villa is now ruins, but the workshop, where Daimler and his colleague Wilhelm Maybach worked on inventing the internal combustion engine, remains as a memorial. You can see models of engine prototypes and Daimler and Maybach's workbench, at which they worked day and night in the 1880s.
Open 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Entry is free. More info here. |

TV tower
Standing atop the Hoher Bosper hill on the southern periphery of Stuttgart, when the TV tower was built in 1956 it was the first of its kind in the world. The novel concept of recouping the building costs through restaurant and visitor income proved successful (with costs recouped in just five years) and the idea has since been copied many times around the world. The tower is 216.8m high with viewing platforms at 150 and 153.5m and a cafe at 147m. The tower is open daily (excl. Dec. 24) from 9am. Last ascent in the lift at 10.30pm. Viewing platform closes 11pm. Adult admission in 2005 cost 3 euros. More info here.
