As this panorama view from Nuremberg castle shows, the stadium (arrowed and shown in greater close-up alongside the Nazi era, Colosseum-like Kongresshalle below) is not right in the city centre.

The best way to get there is therefore by public transport.

Take the train
From the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), take the S2 urban train (S-Bahn) to 'Frankenstadion'.

By bus or tram
From the city centre you can also go by bus or tram.  You would need bus no. 44 or 65, or tram no. 6 or 9.

Extra trains, trams and buses run on match days.  Your match ticket is valid for travel to and from the game on these local services.

Many of the buses and trams stop at the 'Doku Zentrum' rather than right at the ground.  The 'Frankenstadion' S-Bahn stop is a lot closer.

Click the VGN symbol on the right to reach the Nuremberg local transport journey planner.  It's in English and the Frankenstadion is already set as the destination, so all you have to do is enter the departure point.

Enter 'Nuremberg' for the city (it understands the English spelling) and then the place you want to leave from (select 'Point of interest' instead of 'Stop' or 'House number').  Here are a few example departure points:

  • Main station: Enter Hbf (the abbreviation for Hauptbahnhof)
  • Castle: Enter Burg
  • National museum: Enter Nationalmuseum (as one word)
  • Main market: Enter Hauptmarkt

Journey time from the main station is 12 minutes.

To see photos showing the location of the Frankenstadion station in relation to the ground go to Stadium gallery 3.
