Notable names Having dropped into the third flight Regional League in the year of their 100th anniversary, Hanover 96 were helped back into full-time professional football in part by goals from a young Gerald Asamoah (pictured above), who, after moving on to Schalke 04, went on to become the first African-born player (he was born in Ghana) to represent Germany. He has since become a regular member of the German national squad. |
Four years after Asamoah's goals helped to get Hanover 96 back into the second division, the coaching and management of Ralf Rangnick (above) led them back to the top flight. Sacked in 2004, he went on to manage Schalke 04. |
