S9 or S45 metro train (S-Bahn)

Both the S9 and S45 lines of the S-Bahn metro services both run from the airport station.

The S9 is a good choice for going into the centre of town.  It follows the same route as the
Airport Express, north west into the city centre.  However, it makes more stops and ultimately leaves the Airport Express route, heading off south west to Grunewald.  Significant stops on the S9 line include:

-    Ostbahnhof

-    Alexanderplatz

-    Hackescher Markt

-    Friedrichstrasse

-    Lehrter Stadtbahhof

-    Tiergarten

-    Zoologischer Garten

The S45 initially heads north west towards the city and then runs clockwise around half the perimeter of zone A, ending up at Westend in the north west of the city.
