Frankfurt airport (Photo: Fraport AG)		No airport in Kaiserslautern As a relatively small provincial town, Kaiserslautern does not have its own airport.  Your main choices are: Frankfurt International Frankfurt Hahn Saarbrücken is also an option.
Frankfurt International is about 70 minutes away by car.  From the railway station within the terminal you can also get a train to Kaiserslautern main railway station (walking distance from the ground).  The journey takes around 1 hour 35 minutes, changing at Mannheim. The airport is served by all the major European carriers, plus Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, amongst others, with flights from the US (JFK c. 8 hrs 30 mins), South African Airways flying direct to and from Jo'burg (in 10 hrs 15 mins), and Qantas and British Airways doing the long haul to and from Sydney, with one stop, in around 23 hours.
Frankfurt Hahn is a former US Air Force base in the village of Hahn almost a two-hour drive away and rather mischievously christened "Frankfurt" by the low-cost airlines using the airport, such as Ryanair.  Other airlines operating out of Hahn include LTU and Wizz Air.		Frankurt Hahn airport
Coach shuttle from Hahn to Frankfurt		If you fly into Hahn and want to go on to Frankfurt, you can get a shuttle bus from right outside the terminal.  The journey takes around 1 hr 45 mins and costs €12.  The Hahn Express coach company also runs a service for €14 to Mannheim, from which there are good train connections to Kaiserslautern (both prices correct as at Dec. 2004).
