Overview - Oceanic zone

The Oceanic zone qualifying zone process is a bit complicated.

First, 10 teams play in two groups on a league basis.

The winners and runners-up of each group (i.e. 4 teams), plus Australia and New Zealand, then play each other, again on a league basis.

The winner and runner-up of this stage move onto a third stage in which the two teams play each other home and away.

The winner then plays off against the fifth-placed team from South America.
