Hamburg is Germany's second largest city - after Berlin - and the second largest port in Europe.  In terms of World Cup geography, it is also the northernmost outpost, a long, long way from cities such as Nuremberg and Munich in the southern state of Bavaria.  Only Hanover is anything like nearby (and even that city is just over 100 miles away) while reaching five of the other World Cup venues requires a road journey of over 300 miles.

The best way to reach some of the other cities may therefore be to go by air or rail, while all of them can be reached - if you don't mind the drive - via Germany's efficient autobahn network.
