Dortmund main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) is an Intercity Express (ICE) long distance station and rates as one of the most important hubs in Germany for passenger rail transport.  The station is located in the centre of the city, on the edge of the central pedestrianised shopping zone.  The Westfalen Stadium is 7 stops away on the metro (Stadtbahn), for which there is an integrated station below the railway station (see City centre to stadium).

Local transport
As well as the Stadtbahn (a metro system that runs both above and below ground), the city also runs 2 tram lines and a comprehensive bus network (Public transport planner).
