Over 3.5m passengers used the airport in 2004, making it Germany's ninth largest in terms of passenger numbers. Internal connections If you fancy getting around Germany by air during the tournament, Nuremberg could be a good place to make your base. Air Berlin, Germany's leading low-cost airline, having flown just over 12 million passengers in 2004, provides direct flights to 8 of the other 11 venues from the airport. Of the other three, Gelsenkirchen can be reached easily via Dusseldorf (to which Air Berlin also flies), which leaves just Stuttgart and Kaiserslautern to get to by other means.

Local transport Nuremberg is only the second city in Germany (after Berlin) to have an underground rail link from its airport into the city. In this case, it's the U2 and the journey takes just 12 minutes. For the onward journey to the stadium, it's an 8-minute ride on the S2 local S-Bahn train to Frankenstadion. With the change, it takes 25-35 minutes in all. |
