Hanover 'Hauptbahnhof' (main station) is one of the main hubs on the German rail network, with over 700 trains and quarter of a million passengers passing through every day.  It's regarded as one of the cleanest and safest stations in Germany, having won a 'Station of the Year' award in 2004.

In addition to mainline trains, the station is also the hub for Hanover's suburban train (S-Bahn), tram and underground (Stadtbahn) network.

Location
Hanover main station is located at the end of a pedestrianised street called Bahnhofstrasse (Station Road) at street level and also the Passarelle, where it runs one level down as a shopping promenade.  As the crow flies, it is just under 1 mile from the stadium, which can be reached on foot or by local public transport (see also our City centre to stadium page).

Local transport
Hanover operates a local public transport network of suburban trains, trams (some of which also run underground) and buses.  All of the local transport services are operated as part of the GVH (The Greater Hanover Transport Association).  The GVH public transport planner
linked to here has an English interface, but only recognises a few English entries.  For help with using it, see our City centre to stadium page.
