Former field of dreams In Gelsenkirchen the 'Fan Fest' is being staged at Schalke 04's former ground, the 'Glückauf-Kampfbahn'.
By today's standards, the ground is a very simple stadium with just one small stand - but it holds some great memories! |
The Glückauf-Kampfbahn is Schalke's spiritual home, where the great team of the 1930s and 40s won the German championship no less than six times with an exciting brand of neat, passing football.
Like a rock concert
For the 'Fan Fest' it will be able to accommodate up to 22,000 fans watching live TV pictures of the games on a giant screen, some 60 square metres in size - just like at a rock concert!
Alongside the main Glückauf-Kampfbahn stadium there are two further pitches, where refreshments, toilet and medical facilities will be laid on. The organisers will also be arranging a full programme of entertainment throughout the day.
No parking - come by tram!
The Glückauf-Kampfbahn is, unlike the Veltins Arena, actually in the Schalke district of Gelsenkirchen and with very little parking avaible is best reached by public transport (e.g. the L302 tram, getting off at Ernst-Kuzorra-Platz).
