Berlin fan survey continued...

What's the best way to get from the city centre to the ground on public transport?

Sören: It's very fast with the S-Bahn (metro) or underground.

Markus:  On the S-Bahn (metro) or underground.  Get off at Olympiastadion.

Alex: Underground, line 2 to the Olympiastadion.  S-Bahn (metro): circle line (Stadtring) to Westkreuz, then any line, e.g. 75, going to Spandau/Olympiastadion.

Andrea: On the metro or underground.

Gunnar: the U2 from the Ku'damm or the S-Bahn - both are perfect.

Pepsi-Peppy: On the S-Bahn or underground.

Joël: Underground or S-Bahn to the Olympiastadion stop.

If you meet opposition fans in a pub, what's the best thing to say if you want to make friends?

Sören
: The best thing is either to start up an appropriate song, or to wander up to the table, glass in hand, and say "Prost, ich komme aus...und bin Fussballfan!" ("Cheers, I come from ... and I'm a football fan")

Markus: Smile, say "Guten Tag" and start chatting about football.

Alex: "Fußball ist eine einfache Sache: Es spielen elf gegen elf und am Ende gewinnt immer Deutschland" (Gary Lineker) I'll leave you to guess what that means - Ed.

Andrea: You simply have to be friendly and able to have a good chat.

Gunnar: Something nice about the host country and the hospitality.

Pepsi-Peppy: "Lass uns ein Bier trinken" (Let's have a beer together).

Joël: "Habt Ihr auch keine Karten bekommen?" (Didn't you guys get tickets either?)

If you meet opposition fans in a pub, what should you definitely not say, if you want it to be a good evening?

Sören: Nothing about Adolf Hitler or anything bad about Berlin.

Markus: Whatever you say, don't say anything provocative.

Alex: "Ich würde Holland den Sieg gönnen" = "I think Holland deserved their victory"

Andrea: Any hate-filled chants.

Gunnar: Definitly not anything about the war or the Nazis.  That would certaily spoil the evening.

Pepsi-Peppy: "Deutschland Deutschland alles ist vorbei" ('Germany, Germany - it's all over' - a line from a standard football taunt).

Joël: Avoid anything to do with National Socialism.

Where's the best place to park near the ground?

Sören
: That's a big problem in Berlin!  So, it's definitely best to go to the ground on the metro or underground.

Markus: That's a tough one.  Best to take to the metro or underground.

Alex: Ideally nowhere near the ground.

Andrea: Everywhere! (German sarcasm? Ed.)

Gunnar: Stresow or Pichelsberg, then it's one stop on the S-Bahn.

Pepsi-Peppy: There isn't anywhere!

Joël: On Kaiserdamm or Theodor-Heuss-Platz and then take the tube.
